The 3 Phases of Care
1st - Pain Relief Care
Many people go to a chiropractor because they are in pain. In this first phase of care, the main goal is to reduce your symptoms as quickly as possible. Depending on factors such as the severity of the underlying condition and your body's capacity for healing this will require 2 - 3 visits per week, or even daily care for a time.
Most people are under the assumption that if they don't feel any pain that there is nothing wrong with them - that they are healthy. Unfortunately, pain is a very poor indicator of health. In fact, pain and other symptoms frequently only appear after a disease or other condition has become advanced. When you begin chiropractic care, pain is also the first symptom to disappear, even though much of the underlying condition remains.
2nd - Corrective Care
During the corrective phase of chiropractic care, muscles and other tissues are allowed to heal more completely, which helps prevent further injury or pain. If management of care is stopped after the reduction of symptoms and, without the underlying symptoms addressed, many times the complaint will reoccur. Therefore, it may be necessary to continue receiving care even though your symptoms are gone. During this phase, the goal of care is to allow your body to regain 100% functional capability. Many times exercise and nutrition will be prescribed at home in order to help accelerate the healing. It is especially important not to get discouraged during this phase as mild flare ups are common because your body has not fully healed and is adjusting to new biomechanical patterns. to need chiropractic care or adjustments about 2-4 times per month for 6-24 months, depending on your overall health and the severity of your problem.
3rd - Wellness Care
Maintenance is key to a healthy living! Once your body has fully healed, routine chiropractic care can ensure that your physical complaints do not return and helps keep your neuromusculoskeletal system in optimal health. When you make routine chiropractic care a part of your lifestyle, you avoid many of the typical aches and pains that so many people suffer from. Additionally, your nervous system is functioning at a higher level, allowing you to pursue the active lifestyle we were all meant to live. Usually, this phase of chiropractic care only requires a quick visit to the chiropractor 4 times per year, with the changing of the seasons, based on your lifestyle and specific goals.
